ABCya! free & exciting computer activities for K-5 students to learn on the web. All educational computer games and activities were created or approved by certified teachers. Activities are modeled from primary grade lessons and enhanced to provide an interactive way to learn. SpellingCity is an online spelling program that makes practicing for spelling tests fun. SpellingCity.com has over 42,000 spelling words read by an actual person. A Maths Dictionary for Kids 2009 from Aussie School House Teachers on the Web, an Australian K-6 teacher defines and illustrates more than 500 mathematical terms. The result is a unique dictionary featuring clear and often interactive graphics, great colors, and lots more. (8/15/09)

 

Pictogram Graph  helps students create and learn about pictogram graphs in an interactive environment.  The Pictogram Graph website makes it simple to add titles, choose a picture, choose the value of each picture, choose the number of rows/columns, and place pictures on the graph. (8/12/09)

 

Exploring the Secret Life of Trees is a neat interactive site for 3rd through 5th grade students designed to help them gain an appreciation of trees, observe trees in every day life, and develop an interest in learning more about trees.  Students will learn about the basic parts of a tree and their functions.  They will also learn about conservation and renewable and non-renewable sources. Dr. Arbor Talks Trees focuses on tree anatomy and physiology.  Students will learn some of the basic inner workings of trees, how trees grow and develop, the many uses of trees and their bi-products, and some basic chemical principles.  The website is designed for 6th through 8th grade students. EcoKids is a free interactive environmental web site for children, their families, and educators in Canada and around the world. It offers topical information about the environment through interactive, fun, educational games and activities.  Children are encouraged to form their own opinions, make decisions, get involved and understand the impact their own actions have on the environment. Tangram House  This online version of the Chinese puzzle lets students select a puzzle to complete and work with 7 tans (shapes) to fill the puzzle.  The tans can be rotated, flipped, and dragged into place.  The puzzles can be completed online or downloaded for free as an offline game. The Math Tool Chest is a collection of eleven interactive Flash-based tools and activities to facilitate teaching mathematics. Included are such items as Coin Toss, Number Line, Fractions, and Spinner. (8/1/09)

Mathebook.net has online tutorials as well as downloadable pdf tutorials which one can save and use later,  it can even be used by teachers for homework. The site is fully interactive and will allow kids to practice and learn math with ease. (7/21/09)

The four games include Lab Rat Race, Beaker Blast, Butterfly Boss, and Circuit Center. Science content, provided by ISTE, ranges from biology to geology to astronomy, selectable by the user for each one of the games. Pollinator Resources for Teachers It is key for students to discover the importance of pollinators and pollination at a young age. There are many activities in which a classroom can engage to learn about pollinators and, at the same time, to aid in their conservation. Try starting a pollinator garden, building bat houses or bee nest boxes, or teach a lesson about how pollinators benefit agriculture and biodiversity. (6/29/09)

All About Explorers was developed by a group of teachers as a means of teaching elementary age students about the Internet. Although the Internet can be a tremendous resource for gathering information about a topic, we found that students often did not have the skills to discern useful information from worthless data. The Oxford University Press has a neat and simple interactive numberline that young students can use to learn to locate numbers and sequence numbers. The numberline presents the student with a number to locate within a range. Once the correct range of numbers is selected, the student then has to select a smaller range in which to place the given number.
